New Delhi, May 06: Israel’s security cabinet has approved a plan to intensify its military campaign against Hamas, including the capture and prolonged holding of territory in Gaza, an Israeli official said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a “forceful operation” to defeat Hamas and rescue hostages, and said Gaza’s 2.1 million residents would be relocated “to protect them,” though he did not specify where or how.

The Israeli cabinet also endorsed a proposal to deliver aid through private companies, bypassing the UN and ending a two-month blockade. Aid agencies have condemned the plan, warning it violates humanitarian principles and puts civilians at greater risk.

A Hamas official rejected the plan as “pressure and blackmail,” while international responses have been mixed: the UK opposed the expansion, the EU urged restraint, and President Trump pledged food aid to Palestinians.
