New Delhi, Jan 9: Gaza grappled with dwindling aid and medical supplies, as international organisations faced challenges in delivering essential assistance. The World Health Organization (WHO) has cancelled its fourth mission to transport medical supplies to northern Gaza due to a lack of security guarantees, exacerbating the dire situation.

The International Rescue Committee has announced the withdrawal of its medics from Gaza's only functioning hospital in central Gaza, where shortages and black market activities are taking a toll. Critical supplies are scarce, forcing residents to turn to the black market, where prices soar.

Amidst the crisis, Israel has announced a brief pause in military activities in part of central Gaza to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian supplies. The temporary suspension, described as "local and temporary tactical," will take place in the southeast of Deir al-Balah, providing a window from 10:00 to 14:00 local time for humanitarian purposes.

In the last 24 hours, Gaza's health ministry reported 126 additional casualties, bringing the total death toll to at least 23,210 since the conflict erupted three months ago. The number of injuries has reached 59,167. Israel Defence Forces confirmed the deaths of nine more members, raising the total to 185 since the ground offensive commenced.

Reports from Palestinian media indicate the destruction of a 16-story residential tower block in the city centre. Israeli warplanes reportedly targeted the Al-Farra Tower, the tallest residential tower in the city.

Amidst the escalating tensions, a drone launched from Lebanon targeted an Israeli military base in northern Israel. Hezbollah claimed responsibility, stating it aimed at an Israeli command post in Safed. The Israeli military reported no casualties and rocket fire from Lebanon towards two border communities.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, following meetings with Gulf leaders, met with Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Blinken reiterated American support for Israel's right to defend against attacks and emphasized the need to minimize harm to civilians. Discussions also covered ongoing efforts to secure the release of remaining hostages, with Blinken underscoring the importance of sustained humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza. The situation remains complex and continues to draw international concern.
