Islamia College organises seminar on Non-Communicable Diseases
Srinagar, Nov 10: To celebrate the UT Foundation Day, Post Graduate Department of Zoology, Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Srinagar organised one day seminar on “Non-Communicable Diseases” in the college campus.
Principal of the College, Professor (Dr.) Khurshid Ahmad Khan welcomed expert team of doctors from the Department of community medicine SKIMS, Soura. In the inaugural address Principal said that Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) are the number one cause of death and disability in the world.
Professor Javid Hussain, Head, PG Department of Zoology said that an important recommendation from this program is that institutions like SKIMS should take more responsibility for better outcomes of drug discovery projects.
Professor Zahida Mehraj said such seminars will go a long way in bridging the societal divide between a doctor and patient.
Key note speakers Dr. Fahad Bukhari, Dr. Goausia Basheer and Dr. Shah Muneeb, from the Department of Community Medicine, SKIMS, Soura, Srinagar UT of J&K presented a border outlook about NCD’s in their presentations.
In the question/answer session, doctors from SKIMS Soura volunteered to help people to adopt these healthy behaviors and reduce their risk of contracting non-communicable diseases.
The series of events was moderated and anchored by Professor Sajad Sarvar coordinator of the program from PG Department of Zoology, ICSC. Large number of students and staff attended the seminar and had question/answer session. Media Secretary of Islamic College DR Syed Untoo also participated in the event.
