Srinagar, Mar 7: Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Srinagar organised a seminar on three new criminal laws at its campus in collaboration with NSS and NCC Army Wing of the College.

The seminar was inaugurated by Professor Tehmina Yosuf, the College's principal, who highlighted the significance of the newly introduced criminal laws, which replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Indian Evidence Act, respectively.

She appreciated the initiative by PO, NSS, Unit 3 & ANO NCC, Army and stressed the importance of legal awareness among students and the general public through such seminars and Guest Lecture sessions. Dr Azhar Rashid (KPS) SDPO Khanyar in his power point presentation elaborated on various aspects of the new criminal laws, emphasising their role in modernising the justice system and enhancing transparency. Dr. Azhar also engaged in a thought-provoking discussion on the challenges and opportunities presented by the new legal framework in his presentation. Inspector Mudasir Hameed, Faculty at Police Training School, Manigam in his lucid presentation stated, that "Understanding the evolving legal landscape is crucial for ensuring justice and upholding the rule of law in our society."

He appreciated the college administration for such activities in the campus. He added that, these seminars bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world legal challenges. These laws will mark a significant shift in India's legal framework, focusing on speedy justice, victim rights, technology-driven law enforcement, and stringent measures against organized crime and terrorism, he added. Inspector Naseer Ahmad Malik, SHO Nowhata, provided an in-depth analysis of the new laws, emphasising their role in making justice delivery more effective and ensuring transparency in the legal system.

Dr Syed A. Untoo, Media Secretary of the College said that the event brought together experts, faculty, and students to discuss the recent changes in India's criminal justice system and their impact on law enforcement and society. Dr Untoo said the seminar concluded with an interactive session where students and faculty members had Q/A  to the panelists, fostering an insightful dialogue on the subject.
