Islamia College organises debate on NEP

Srinagar, Nov 14: Islamia College organised an inter-college debate on National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The NEP 2020 introduced by the Government of India has been a subject of widespread discussion and debate across various academic and social platforms.

In this backdrop Islamia College organised, “Inter College Debate on NEP 2020: Students’ Perspective” in the campus.

Students from different city colleges came together to share their ideas and critiques of the policy.

The event gave a platform in fostering an environment of intellectual engagement and critical discourse. Principal of the college, Professor (Dr) Tehmina Yousuf delivered the welcome address and stressed the importance of the NEP 2020 policy.

She said that NEP 2020 aims to overhaul the education system in India, with an emphasis on inclusivity, flexibility, and improving the quality of education.

Prof Uheeda Shah, Convenor Debates and Seminars, ICSC said that the NEP 2020 introduces a more flexible and interdisciplinary curriculum, allowing students to choose subjects based on their interests. "The option to combine subjects across disciplines (such as arts, science, and vocational training) is seen as a step towards holistic development. Students presented their arguments on various aspects of NEP 2020, including curriculum reform, vocational education, multilingualism, technology integration, and mental health support."

The inter-college debates provide a platform for varying perspectives, helping to critically examine the policy and propose solutions for effective execution.

Dr Nayer Rizwana, from ICSC, Prof Mohd Zubair from Gandhi Memorial College and Prof Suhail Showkeen from GDC Women, Zakura acted as judges and declared three positions and a consolation prize.
