Islamia College hosts IIS Bengaluru researcher

Srinagar, July 13: Continuing with the series of events in the college on Saturday, a distinguished researcher Kasturi Saha from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India was hosted by the College to speak on the burning issues of Wildlife, Biodiversity its Conservation and thereby prompting students into critical thinking.

PG Department of Zoology headed by Prof Javid Hussain welcomed Kasturi from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. The broader theme of the lecture focuses on bridging gaps between Science and Society.

Principal Islamic College, Prof Tehmina Yousuf, commended the organisers and said that the purpose of such lectures was to encourage students to know about the global challenges and develop capacities aimed at problem resolution. She said that global issues demand global consensus and encourage youth to develop a broader perspective. She said that Islamia College is committed to making an impact on society as far as wildlife, biodiversity and its conservation are concerned.

Kasturi in her maiden presentation focused on the relation between Science and Society by quoting findings of her research on Bat Signaling, Katydids, and Prey-predator Interaction. She underscored the importance of sensibilities with scientific inquiry to foster a holistic approach to understanding and solving complex problems.

Kasturi is currently working as a research consultant with Wildlife Research Conservation, India.

Prof Sajad Sarvar moderated the question-to-answer session and emphasised the relevance of bringing experts from different corners of the country to speak on campus, enriching the academic environment in the college.

Prof Zahida Mehraj senior faculty from the Department of Zoology said that such lectures not only bring together the brightest minds to discuss critical issues but also inspire our students and faculty to pursue excellence and innovation in their respective fields.
