International Women’s Day celebrated in Srinagar

Srinagar, Mar 9: To mark the International Women’s Day, the International Human Rights Organisation (IHRO) felicitated women achievers in different fields and organised a walkathon.

During a function at Tagore Hall, organisation celebrated the remarkable achievements of women in various sectors. Among the awardees who were felicitated with mementos and certificates for their remarkable social services and women empowerment initiatives were the Raja Nikhat Aman SSP Security Civil Secretariat Srinagar, Administrative Officer Dr Deeba Khalid-JKAS, renowned social activist Ms Nikhat Shafi Pandit, prominent Gynaecologist Dr Shahida Mir, Dr Mehjabeen, Chairperson Care Foundation, Journalist Humaira Nabi, Blood Woman of Kashmir Bilkees Ara, Dr Mubeena Ramzan, Social activist, Ms Halima Shabir, Arjuna awardee Athelete Sheetal Devi, Socio-political activist Sunita Arora, Architect Irchitect Nowshehri, Dr Mantasha, Adv Amtul Basit, Fatima Hamid, Ms Atiya and others. The event was led by the dynamic women’s team of J&K Chapter.

Later a walkathon, a three km walk at Foreshore Road in presence of eminent sports personalities and Bollywood actress Wareena Hassan was organised. IHRO HQ core team was also present.

“It was a significant awareness seeing participation of more than 500 youth from universities and districts in valley. Successful conclusion of the walkathon was dedicated to combatting crime against women. The event, organised to raise awareness and advocate for the safety and security of women, saw an overwhelming turnout and a strong display of solidarity from participants across the community,” the organisers said in a statement.
