International conference GOSICON24 kicks off with advanced workshops, training

Srinagar, Oct 3: The 11th International Conference GOSICON24, themed Reconciling Mobility and Functions in Elderly, commenced with highly engaging workshops and hands-on training sessions at Bone and Joint Hospital, Barzulla.

Renowned orthopedic surgeon Prof. Altaf A. Kawoosa, Head of the Department of Orthopedics and Organising Chairman of the conference, said, “the workshops are tailored for Postgraduates (PGs) and Residents, offering them immersive experience in innovative orthopedic interventions.

The workshop on arthroplasty, moderated by Prof. Vijay G. Goni, gave the latest advancements in hip and knee replacement surgeries. Participants had the chance to practice key surgical procedures, including implant selection, surgical techniques, and post-operative care, gaining valuable insight into modern joint replacement strategies.

Another highlight was the workshop on Orthobiologics, moderated by Prof. S. S. Amarnath, which focused on regenerative therapies for joint preservation. Participants were trained in the application of orthobiologic materials, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cells, aimed at promoting tissue healing and regeneration.

Dr Asif Nazir Baba, Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopedics and Organising Secretary of the conference, remarked, “These workshops have been incredibly valuable for our postgraduate students and residents, allowing them to gain hands-on experience with some of the most advanced treatments in modern orthopedics.” He added that such practical exposure, combined with expert mentorship, is vital for preparing the next generation of orthopedic specialists.

Other experts of national repute who were present at the conference included Padmashri Dr. John Ebnezar, Prof. S. S. Jha, Prof. N. K. Magu, and Prof. Rajesh Gupta.

The conference is jointly organised by the Geriatric Orthopaedic Society of India, the Department of Orthopedics, GMC Srinagar, and the Moul Mouj Foundation, underscoring a collaborative effort to advance senior citizens health.
