Ramban, Mar 3: Police arrested an alleged inter-district drug peddler and recovered 2.84 grams of heroin from his possession during a routine checking drive at Chenani along National Highway-44, officials said on Tuesday.

According to official sources, a police team from Police Station Chenani was conducting routine naka checking along the National Highway at Chenani near Shahjahan Sweets Shop when they intercepted a suspicious individual heading towards the CNT/Toll Plaza side.

Upon questioning, the individual identified himself as Uzair Khursheed, son of Khursheed Ahmed Beigh, a resident of Rambagh, Balla, P/O Natipora, Srinagar. During a personal search, the police recovered 2.84 grams of heroin from his possession.

The accused was immediately taken into custody. In this connection, FIR No. 35/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Chenani. Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended distribution network of the contraband.
