Pulwama, Sep 15: Director Health Services Kashmir Saturday ordered an inquiry into the death of a woman due to alleged medical negligence at a private nursing home in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

On Saturday evening, Saboora, 21, daughter of Arshid Hussain Bhat of Arihal Pulwama died due to alleged medical negligence.

According to the family of the patient, Saboora was admitted to Muhammadiya Nursing Home, located at Gangoo Pulwama for nasal surgery.

“She was taken to an operation theatre at around 3 pm and when the doctors did not come after 3 hours, we enquired about the delay,” a family member said.

The family said that the medical staff without informing them rushed the patient to SMHS, Srinagar, where doctors declared her dead.

A medical official at the nursing home said that the patient developed some complications, which happen in the rarest of rare cases.

“A senior team of doctors operated upon her,” the official said.

Following the allegations of medical negligence, the Director Health Services Kashmir constituted an inquiry committee with Dr Yasmeen Kangoo, Assistant Director DHSK as the chairman of the committee.

According to an order, the inquiry committee would submit its report within a week with specific recommendations.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Basharat Qayoom has also initiated an inquiry into the incident.

“Pending the outcome of this inquiry, the Tehsildar (Executive Magistrate) of Pulwama, in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer and the SHO of Pulwama, have been directed to seal the operation theatre of Muhammdiya Nursing Home effective immediately. This measure is taken to ensure the preservation of evidence and records related to the case,” an official statement reads.
