Infiltration bid foiled in Kupwara's Keran sector, 2 terrorists killed
Srinagar, July 18: Two terrorists were killed as the Police and Army successfully foiled an infiltration bid in the Keran sector of Kupwara district in north Kashmir on Thursday.
This incident marks the second such attempt in the same sector within a week, following the killing of four terrorists four days prior.
The operation, dubbed ‘Operation Rajbir Keran’ was carried out along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector.
The security forces were on high alert due to the recent infiltration attempts and swiftly responded to the latest threat, resulting in the killing of two terrorists.
In a statement issued here, the Army said, “An infiltration attempt has been successfully prevented with the elimination of two terrorists today on the LoC in the Keran sector in Kupwara. Anti-infiltration operations are continuing.”
“Operation Rajbir Keran, Kupwara: An Infiltration attempt has been successfully prevented with the elimination of two terrorists today on the LoC in the Keran sector in Kupwara. Anti-infiltration operations are continuing in Kashmir @adgpi @NorthernComd_IA,” Chinar Corps - Indian Army said in a post on X.
The identities of the killed terrorists and their affiliation with any terror group have not yet been confirmed.
However, sources within the security establishment believe that they were part of a group attempting to cross the LoC to carry out terror attacks in Kashmir.
Kupwara district has been a significant hotspot for infiltration attempts due to its challenging terrain and dense forests, which provide cover for terrorists.
The recent operations highlight the ongoing efforts by security forces to secure the LoC and prevent terrorists from entering Kashmir.
Anti-infiltration operations are being intensified across the LoC with additional patrols and surveillance measures being implemented to detect and thwart any future attempts.
The continued efforts are part of a broader strategy to maintain peace and stability in Kashmir amidst ongoing security challenges.
