Infiltration bid foiled in Keran, 2 militants killed
Kupwara, Oct 5: Two militants were killed after security forces foiled an infiltration bid in the Gugaldhar area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Saturday afternoon.
An Army official said that following specific information about an infiltration bid, a joint operation by security forces was launched during which multiple ambushes were laid along the possible routes of infiltration.
He said that one of the ambush teams witnessed the movement of militants to this side.
“They were challenged by the ambush team, resulting in a firefight which led to the killing of two heavily armed terrorists,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Army in a statement issued here said, “Over the past few weeks, multiple intelligence inputs were received about infiltration attempts planned through the Keran sector. On October 3, specific input was received from multiple intelligence agencies, corroborated by J&K Police and Intelligence Bureau about Hizb terrorists likely to infiltrate through the Keran sector, leveraging dense cover of forest and thick undergrowth. Accordingly, a joint operation was launched by the Army, BSF, and J&K Police over Thursday and Friday night along the infiltration routes and ensuring round-the-clock surveillance.”
The statement said: “On Friday, around 8 pm suspicious movement was observed by the security forces from an area across the Line of Control (LoC) and as they came close by, vigilant troops challenged them, which resulted in infiltrating terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. In the ensuing gunfight, two terrorists were killed alongside the recovery of a large quantity of warlike stores. From the recoveries, it was evident that terrorists were heavily armed, well-trained, and equipped. This successful intelligence-based operation is yet another example of the synergy amongst intelligence agencies, the Army, BSF, and J&K Police. Chinar Warriors stand steadfast to defeat the nefarious design of inimical elements to disrupt peace and harmony in Kashmir.”
