Srinagar, Nov 24: Retired Chief Librarian of Islamia College Srinagar, Haji Nazir Ahmed Koul, brother-in-law of noted industrialist and social activist Nasrullah Jaan, passed away on Sunday at around 1 pm at SMHS Hospital after a brief illness.

A respected figure in Kashmir’s literary and academic circles, Koul was widely known for his lifelong dedication to books and library development. Among the first Kashmiris to complete an M-Lib from Aligarh Muslim University in the 1960s, he went on to play a pioneering role in establishing libraries across Srinagar and several educational institutions.  His family members said that his contributions to the libraries of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-K) and other prominent institutes remain significant milestones in Kashmir’s library culture.

Colleagues and associates remember him as a gentle, cooperative soul who worked closely with numerous renowned political and social personalities to strengthen academic resources and promote reading in the Valley. He is survived by two sons and a daughter. His Taziyat will observed for three days viz (Sunday to Tuesday) at Tawheed Abad Bemina Srinagar.
