India’s Grand Mufti writes to PM Modi
Srinagar, May 9: The Grand Mufti of India, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, in a letter addressed to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, expressed his unequivocal support for Indiaís stand against terrorism and extremism on Friday.
In the letter ëExpression of Support for Indiaís Stand and Measures against Terrorism and Extremismí, he prayed for the countryís peace, progress, and unity.
The Grand Mufti urged all citizens to stand united in support of these national efforts.
Regardless of our backgrounds or faith, we all must act to safeguard the values that bind us as a diverse yet harmonious nation,î he said.
In the letter, the Grand Mufti said, ìAt this critical juncture, when our country is steadfastly confronting the menace of terrorism and extremism, I wish to convey my unequivocal support for the strong and principled stance adopted by the Government of India and the courageous efforts of our Armed Forces in safeguarding the sovereignty, unity, and security of the nation.î
He wrote: ìTerrorism poses a grave threat not only to national stability but also to global peace and human dignity. Indiaís proactive measures to curb the activities of extremist forcesóparticularly in regions prone to unrest, such as Kashmiróreflect the governmentís deep commitment to protecting innocent lives and upholding the values of justice and humanity. These actions are not only essential for national integrity but also serve as a vital contribution to regional and international peace.î
Furthermore, he said, ìI am confident that Indiaís strategic interventions and diplomatic leadership can play a transformative role in countering radical ideologies and promoting sustainable peace across South Asia. Through principled diplomacy, firm resolve, and inclusive efforts, our nation can continue to emerge as a beacon of stability in a turbulent world.î
Concluding the letter with a prayer, he wrote, ìMay the Almighty guide and strengthen the leadership of India in its noble pursuit of peace and security.
