India’s defence production hits record Rs 1.51 lakh crore in FY25
New Delhi, Aug 9: India’s annual defence production has reached a historic high of Rs 1,50,590 crore in FY 2024-25, marking an 18% jump over the previous year and a 90% surge since FY 2019-20. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the milestone as proof of the country’s strengthening defence industrial base.
Defence PSUs and other public-sector entities contributed about 77% of the total, while the private sector’s share climbed from 21% in FY24 to 23% in FY25.
Production grew 16% in the public sector and 28% in the private sector, supported by policy reforms, ease of doing business measures, and a decade-long focus on indigenisation under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat drive. The government’s push for self-reliance has also spurred record defence exports of Rs 23,622 crore in FY25, up 12% from the previous year. Officials say sustained reforms, greater private participation, and export growth will keep the sector’s momentum strong in the coming years.
