Indian Navy’s first training squadron heads to South East Asia on long range training deployment
New Delhi, Jan 7: The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron, comprising INS Tir, Shardul, Sujata and ICGS Sarathi, will undertake a Long Range Training Deployment to South East Asia as part of the training programme for the 110th Integrated Officers’ Training Course. During the deployment, the squadron will make port calls at Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. The mission is aimed at providing officer trainees with extensive operational and cross-cultural exposure, while reinforcing India’s maritime engagement with South East Asian countries in line with the Act East Policy and India’s vision of a free, open and inclusive Indian Ocean Region.
A series of professional interactions and cooperative activities are planned during the port visits, including training exchanges, cross-deck visits, interactions with maritime experts and joint maritime partnership exercises with host navies and agencies.
These engagements are intended to enhance interoperability, build mutual trust and promote the sharing of best practices at sea. The 110th Integrated Officers’ Training Course includes six international officer trainees, highlighting the Indian Navy’s commitment to capacity building and professional military education for personnel from friendly foreign nations. Personnel from the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force are also embarked for the deployment, further strengthening jointness among the three services. The Long Range Training Deployment reflects the Indian Navy’s focus on training excellence, while contributing to maritime diplomacy, goodwill and a cooperative approach to regional maritime security.
