Indian Navy responds swiftly to M V Islander fire incident amid suspected drone attack
New Delhi, Feb 24: The MV Islander, flying the Palau flag, experienced a fire following a suspected drone or missile attack on February 22, 2024. Responding promptly to the distress call, an Indian Navy destroyer, deployed for maritime security operations in the Gulf of Aden, reached the vicinity of the vessel on the afternoon of the same day.
Upon arrival, Indian Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists boarded the vessel to mitigate any residual risks. After thorough sanitization, the vessel was deemed safe for continued transit.
Additionally, at the request of the ship's master, a medical team from the Indian Navy also boarded the vessel to provide urgent medical assistance to an injured crew member.
