Indian Navy launches 11th ACTCM Barge in Thane
New Delhi, Sep 9: The launch ceremony of the 11th Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile (ACTCM) Barge, LSAM 25 (Yard 135), was held on Sunday at M/s Suryadipta Projects Pvt Ltd, Thane.
Rear Admiral Vishal Bishnoi, Assistant Chief of Materiel (Work Production & Acquisition), was the chief guest at the event.
The contract for 11 ACTCM barges was signed with the MSME shipyard in March 2021. Designed and built indigenously in collaboration with an Indian ship design firm and the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), the barges underwent model testing for seaworthiness at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam. So far, 10 barges have been delivered and are already in operational use by the Indian Navy. Officials said the vessels are serving as a testament to the government’s Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives in the defence sector.
