New Delhi, Nov 24: The Indian Navy on 24 November commissioned INS Mahe, the first of the indigenously designed Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.

Built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, INS Mahe is the lead vessel of eight ships in its class and features over 80 percent indigenous content, showcasing India’s growing self-reliance in naval design and technology. The vessel is equipped with advanced sensors and weapon systems to conduct anti-submarine operations in coastal and shallow waters, significantly enhancing the Navy’s ASW capabilities. Named after the historic coastal town of Mahe on the Malabar coast, the ship reflects agility and stealth — symbolised in its crest featuring the Urumi sword and its motto, “Silent Hunters.” The vessel will serve as the frontline in coastal defence, integrating with larger naval assets to ensure maritime security under the vision of a Combat Ready and Aatmanirbhar Navy.
