New Delhi, Jan 10: President Droupadi Murmu addressed the valedictory session of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, today.

She also conferred the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards, recognising the exceptional contributions of the Indian diaspora across the globe.

In her address, the President lauded the diaspora as ambassadors of India's rich heritage, values, and ethos.

“The Indian diaspora represents the best of our country. They carry with them the knowledge and skills from this sacred land, along with the values that have been the foundation of our civilisation for millennia,” President said.

President Murmu emphasised their contributions in diverse fields, including technology, medicine, arts, and entrepreneurship, noting that their achievements have garnered global respect and admiration.

President Murmu congratulated the award recipients, calling their success a source of pride for India and an inspiration to millions worldwide. She also extended special recognition to Christine Kangaloo, President of Trinidad and Tobago, for her leadership and dedication to uplifting women and the Indian diaspora in her nation.

Reflecting on the evolution of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, the President highlighted its role as a platform for idea exchange, collaboration, and strengthening bonds between India and its diaspora.

She reiterated the government’s vision of "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India) by 2047, emphasising the critical role of Indians abroad in achieving this national mission.

President Murmu reminded that the nation’s journey towards a developed India is a collective endeavour. “The global presence of the Indian diaspora offers a unique perspective and the capacity to contribute significantly to this vision," she said.

President Murmu stressed the importance of balancing economic progress with social justice and environmental stewardship. She called upon the diaspora to play a pivotal role in shaping an ecosystem that ensures global well-being alongside national development.

As the event concluded, the President expressed optimism about the future, urging all Indians, at home and abroad, to work together toward building a developed and globally respected nation. "Together, we can build a Viksit Bharat, a nation that stands tall on the global stage and continues to be a beacon of light for the world," she said.
