Indian Coast Guard inducts first indigenous Pollution Control Vessel
New Delhi, Dec 24: The Indian Coast Guard, on December 23, inducted Samudra Pratap, the first indigenously designed and built Pollution Control Vessel, under the two-ship PCV project of Goa Shipyard Limited. With over 60 per cent indigenous content, the induction reinforces the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.
The 114.5-metre-long vessel is the largest ship in the ICG fleet and is equipped with advanced pollution response, firefighting and surveillance systems, significantly enhancing the Coast Guard’s operational reach.
It is the first ICG ship fitted with Dynamic Positioning capability and specialised equipment for oil spill detection, analysis and recovery within India’s Exclusive Economic Zone and beyond. The induction ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Indian Coast Guard and Goa Shipyard Limited.
