Indian Army signs contract for fire-fighting robot under iDEX
New Delhi, Jan16: The Indian Army has signed a procurement contract for a fire-fighting robot under the Innovation for Defence Excellence (iDEX) framework, reinforcing its push towards indigenous defence technology.
The contract was signed with Swadeshi Empresa Pvt Ltd on January 13 at the Capability Development Directorate of the Indian Army. Developed initially for the Indian Navy, the fire-fighting robot is being procured by the Army for the first time under provisions that allow the acquisition of iDEX products developed for other Services.
The unmanned ground vehicle is designed to operate in hazardous fire situations, allowing fire-fighting operations to be carried out from a safe distance and reducing risks to personnel during emergencies.
