Indian Army organises Captain Atul Somra Cricket Cup 2024
Banihal, Nov 6: In an effort to promote physical fitness and foster sportsmanship among the youth of Banihal of Ramban district, Indian Army is organising “Captain Atul Somra Cricket Cup 2024” at the Cricket Ground Bankot.
Thirty-two teams from various parts of Ramban district are participating in the tournament, Army said.
The inaugural match was played between M&M Fagow Warriors and Doligam Strikers on Wednesday. The tournament will conclude on November 16, 2024.
The tournament was inaugurated by SDM Banihal, Rizwan Asgar joined by SDPO Banihal, Manjeet Singh; SHO Banihal, Ashiq Bukari; BMO, Dr Syeed Ismail and Dr Bashir (Ayush).
“This inaugural cricket match holds special significance as it is being played on the cricket ground dedicated and constructed by the civil administration for the region’s youth,” Army said.
“Dignitaries and locals commended the Army’s continuous efforts in providing opportunities for local teams to showcase their sporting talents in presence of media. The event has generated a tremendous response from the youth across the remote villages of Ramban district. The Army remains committed to support the local community and will continue to collaborate with the civil administration to organise various sports events in the future, further enhancing the region's sporting landscape,” Army said.
