India, WFP sign pact to supply fortified rice for Global Hunger Relief
New Delhi, Aug 25: India and the World Food Programme (WFP) have signed a Letter of Intent to strengthen cooperation in tackling global hunger. The agreement will enable WFP to source fortified rice from India to support vulnerable populations in crisis-hit regions worldwide.
The initiative follows discussions held earlier this year in Rome and builds on ongoing collaborations in areas such as fortified rice rollout, smart warehousing, and supply chain optimisation.
Officials said the partnership reflects India’s role as an agricultural surplus nation contributing to international humanitarian food security.mSenior representatives from the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Food Corporation of India and WFP attended the signing ceremony in New Delhi.
