India, Uzbekistan hold 9th Counter-Terrorism Working Group meeting in Tashkent
New Delhi, Oct 1: India and Uzbekistan held the ninth meeting of their Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism in Tashkent on Tuesday, co-chaired by Vinod J Bahade, Joint Secretary (Counter Terrorism) in the Ministry of External Affairs, and Gulomjon Pirimkulov, Head of Department for Cooperation with South Asia, Middle East and Africa, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.
The two sides reviewed global and regional terrorist threats and discussed emerging challenges such as radicalisation, extremist propaganda, terror financing, misuse of technology, and links between organised crime and terrorism. Both delegations strongly condemned the April 22, 2025 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that targeted innocent civilians.
The meeting also focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation through information sharing, capacity building, and the exchange of best practices. India and Uzbekistan reaffirmed their commitment to closer coordination in multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, SCO-RATS, and the Eurasian Group (EAG). The next meeting of the Joint Working Group will be hosted by India on a mutually agreed date.
