New Delhi, Jan 18: India and the United States have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in cybercrime investigations.

The agreement was formalised in Washington DC by Amb Vinay Kwatra, India’s Ambassador to the US, and Kristie Canegallo, Acting United States Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS).

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will oversee the implementation of the MoU on India’s behalf. On the US side, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), along with its constituent agencies—US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Homeland Security Investigations Cyber Crimes Center (C3)—will be responsible for its execution.

The agreement aims to enhance cooperation and training between the two nations in areas such as cyber threat intelligence and digital forensics, crucial tools in combating modern cybercrimes.

Cybercrime poses significant security challenges for both nations, intersecting with issues like terrorism, violent extremism, terror financing, drug trafficking, organised crime, human trafficking, illegal migration, money laundering, and transportation security.
