India to host World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit in 2025: PM Modi
New Delhi, Dec 29: India will host the World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) for the first time from February 5 to 9, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced during the 117th episode of his radio program Mann Ki Baat.
Calling the event a milestone for India’s creative and entertainment industries, PM Modi compared WAVES to global gatherings like Davos, saying, “A great opportunity is on the way to showcase India's creative talent to the world. Giants from the media and entertainment industry, as well as creative minds from across the globe, will gather in India. This summit is an important step towards making India a hub of global content creation.”
Prime Minister also highlighted the role of young creators in shaping India’s entertainment sector, which he described as a driving force behind the country’s goal of becoming a $5 trillion economy. “Whether you are a young creator or an established artist, associated with Bollywood or regional cinema, a professional from the TV industry, an expert in animation, gaming, or an innovator in entertainment technology, I encourage you to be a part of the WAVES Summit,” he said.
The WAVES Summit aims to serve as a platform for collaboration between Indian and international creative professionals. It will spotlight advancements in animation, gaming, entertainment technology, and cinema while reinforcing India’s position as a global leader in content creation. PM Modi paid tribute to Indian cinema legends Raj Kapoor, Mohammed Rafi, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, and Tapan Sinha. Honouring Icons of Indian Cinema in addition to the WAVES announcement, PM Modi paid tribute to Indian cinema legends Raj Kapoor, Mohammed Rafi, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, and Tapan Sinha on their 100th birth anniversaries. “Raj Kapoor’s films showcased India’s soft power and timeless stories. Mohammed Rafi’s mesmerizing voice continues to resonate with all generations. Akkineni Nageswara Rao elevated Telugu cinema while reflecting Indian traditions, and Tapan Sinha’s socially conscious films inspired unity and awareness,” he said.
The Prime Minister praised their contributions to Indian culture, calling their legacy “an everlasting treasure” for future generations.
The Prime Minister noted that the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) celebrated these icons with tributes, screenings, and interactive events, showcasing their significant impact on the world of cinema.
