India to host UNESCO meet on Intangible Cultural Heritage
The Committee oversees the implementation of UNESCO’s 2003 Convention on safeguarding living cultural traditions

New Delhi, Dec 7: India will host the 20th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage from 8 to 13 December 2025 in New Delhi.
The meeting, to be held at the Red Fort, will be chaired by India’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Vishal V Sharma.

The Committee oversees the implementation of UNESCO’s 2003 Convention on safeguarding living cultural traditions.
India, which has served three terms on the Committee, has 15 elements inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List.

The upcoming session will bring global attention to India’s cultural heritage and its efforts to preserve traditional practices, performing arts, festivals, crafts and community-based knowledge systems.
