India, Tanzania strengthen counter-terrorism ties in a meeting held at Dar-es-Salaam
New Delhi, Feb 14: India and Tanzania reaffirmed their commitment to combating terrorism through enhanced cooperation during the second meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Counter Terrorism, held on February 12-13, 2025, in Dar-es-Salaam.
The meeting was co-chaired by K.D. Dewal, Joint Secretary for Counter Terrorism in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, and Dr. Maduhu I. Kazi, Deputy Permanent Secretary in Tanzania’s Ministry of Home Affairs. Delegates from multiple departments and agencies of both nations participated in the discussions, highlighting the broad scope of counter-terrorism collaboration.
During the talks, India and Tanzania reviewed emerging security threats in their respective regions, including state-sponsored and cross-border terrorism. They exchanged perspectives on the evolving tactics of terrorist groups, particularly the misuse of the internet and emerging technologies for extremist purposes, the global movement of terrorists, and radicalization trends.
Both sides also shared insights on tackling the financing of terrorist activities, transnational organized crime, and the nexus between narcotics and terrorism. The discussions emphasized the importance of intelligence sharing, capacity building, and joint efforts at bilateral and multilateral forums to address these growing threats.
In addition to the main deliberations, the Indian delegation visited Tanzania’s Police Forensic Bureau (PFB) and held discussions on enhancing cooperation in forensic investigations and training programs. Strengthening institutional linkages between forensic agencies was identified as a key area of future collaboration.
The two nations agreed to convene the next JWG meeting in New Delhi at a mutually convenient date, reinforcing their shared commitment to deepening counter-terrorism cooperation.
