New Delhi, Feb 3: India on Monday participated in the 64th session of the Commission for Social Development at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, reaffirming its commitment to rights-based, equitable and inclusive social policies.

Delivering India’s national statement, Minister of State for Women and Child Development Smt. Savitri Thakur said social justice and social protection in India are anchored in constitutional guarantees and aligned with the long-term vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. She underlined the guiding principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”, reflecting a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to ensure no one is left behind.

The minister highlighted key initiatives, including parity in girls’ and boys’ education, expansion of basic services such as drinking water, sanitation and clean cooking fuel, large-scale financial inclusion with women as major beneficiaries, nationwide protection mechanisms for women and children, and maternal and child health programmes reaching over 100 million people. She also noted expanded social security coverage for the elderly, persons with disabilities, unorganised workers and transgender persons.

India emphasised the role of digital public infrastructure and Direct Benefit Transfers in improving transparency and efficiency, and called for stronger multilateral cooperation, capacity building and South-South collaboration to address global social development challenges.

The session was attended by representatives of over 100 UN member states and addressed by senior UN and international officials, including the Chair of the Commission and the UN Deputy Secretary-General.
