India-Oman defence ties get major push at 13th JMCC meeting in New Delhi
New Delhi, Nov 24: India and Oman have agreed to deepen their defence partnership following the 13th Joint Military Cooperation Committee (JMCC) meeting held in New Delhi on November 24.
The talks focused on building long-term frameworks for co-development of advanced defence platforms, indigenous manufacturing, and improved strategic resilience.
The meeting was co-chaired by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Mohammed Bin Naseer Bin Ali Al Zaabi, Secretary General of Oman’s Ministry of Defence.
Both sides underlined that closer defence industrial collaboration is vital for regional stability, shared security interests, and sustainable defence modernisation.
They also discussed developments in the Indian Ocean Region, underscoring the importance of coordination in maritime security.
The discussions reaffirmed the strong strategic partnership between India and Oman and stressed the need to maintain regular high-level defence dialogue.
During his visit, Dr Al Zaabi also called on Defence Minister of State, Sanjay Seth and met Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan to further review bilateral defence cooperation. India and Oman share a multidimensional strategic partnership, rooted in political trust, defence cooperation, economic engagement, and cultural ties.
Economic collaboration and energy security, particularly through oil and gas trade, remain key pillars of the relationship.
Both nations also share interests in counter-terrorism, maritime security, and regional stability.
