New Delhi, Apr 29: India and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan held a round of Foreign Office Consultations (FoC) on 29 April 2025 in Amman, Indian delegation chaired by secretary Arun Kumar Chatterjee, conveyed his gratitude to the Jordanian side for their expression of solidarity to the people and Government of India following the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Both sides reiterated the importance of combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, highlighting the urgent need for international cooperation against the scourge.

The consultations, chaired by Shri Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary (CPV & OIA), and H.E. Majed T. Qatarneh, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan, were held in a cordial atmosphere. The last round of the FoC had been held virtually in 2020. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in political-security matters, trade and investment, development partnership, and people-to-people ties. It was agreed that the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries would be marked with a series of commemorative events.

India and Jordan enjoy warm and longstanding ties based on mutual respect and shared values. Economic engagement between the two countries has seen significant growth, with India becoming Jordan’s fourth-largest trading partner in 2023–24, accounting for bilateral trade worth US$2.8 billion. Both sides acknowledged the potential to further diversify trade relations and promote mutual investments. As part of his visit, Secretary Chatterjee engaged with members of the Indian community in Jordan and held interactions with Jordanian representatives from business, academia, and cultural spheres. He is also scheduled to visit the India-Jordan Centre for Excellence in IT at the Al-Hussein Technical University (HTU) in Amman, a flagship institution established with Indian assistance. The two sides agreed to hold the next round of Foreign Office Consultations at a mutually convenient time in New Delhi.
