India dispatches first emergency aid to Kabul after deadly earthquake
New Delhi, Sep 3: India has sent its first consignment of emergency relief assistance to Afghanistan following the devastating earthquake that has claimed more than 1400 lives.
The aid was airlifted to Kabul today, carrying 21 tonnes of relief materials, including blankets, tents, hygiene kits, water storage tanks, generators, kitchen utensils, portable water purifiers, sleeping bags, essential medicines, wheelchairs, hand sanitizers, water purification tablets, ORS solutions and other medical consumables.
Officials said India will continue to monitor the situation on the ground and stands ready to dispatch further humanitarian aid in the coming days.
The powerful quake struck central Afghanistan earlier this week, flattening villages and leaving thousands without shelter. Rescue and relief operations have been hampered by limited resources and damaged infrastructure, with survivors struggling for access to food, clean water, and medical care. The disaster has intensified the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, already reeling under economic hardship and international isolation. India’s assistance forms part of the wider global effort to support earthquake-affected communities.
