India, China review steps to normalise ties during talks in New Delhi
New Delhi, Jan 14: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Sun Haiyan, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC), during her visit to India from January 12 to 14, 2026.
The two sides reviewed progress in stabilising and rebuilding India–China relations, with discussions focusing on strengthening business ties and people-centric exchanges, and identifying ways to advance bilateral engagement in the coming year.
The Chinese side congratulated India on assuming the BRICS chairship and conveyed its support for a successful BRICS Summit to be hosted by India. Ms Sun Haiyan briefed the Foreign Secretary on her interactions in India, including engagements with media, think tanks and political parties, and shared China’s expectations for expanding exchanges under the MEA–IDCPC framework. Vikram Misri emphasised the importance of enhancing people-to-people understanding and creating a positive environment to improve bilateral relations. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the directions of their leaders and to taking forward the normalisation of India–China ties.
