India, Canada agree on new roadmap to revive bilateral ties
New Delhi, Oct 13: At the invitation of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand undertook an official visit to India from October 12–14, 2025, marking a significant step in efforts to stabilise and rebuild the India-Canada relationship.
The meeting in New Delhi followed the guidance of Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Mark Carney, who had met on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, earlier this year. The two leaders had agreed to take calibrated measures to restore normalcy in ties and pursue a balanced partnership grounded in mutual respect and shared democratic values.
According to a joint statement, both sides finalised a new roadmap for India–Canada relations, focusing on trade, technology, clean energy, agriculture, and people-to-people linkages. The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to upholding sovereignty, rule of law, and territorial integrity, while agreeing that a strong and resilient partnership is vital amid rising global economic and geopolitical uncertainties.
India and Canada noted the rise in bilateral trade to $23.66 billion in 2024 and acknowledged growing private-sector engagement. They agreed to resume the Canada–India CEO Forum and launch ministerial-level talks on trade and investment, with an emphasis on clean technology, infrastructure, agri-food, and digital innovation.
