Srinagar, Dec 10: The Income Tax Officer, Ward–Srinagar Moin Siddiqui on Wednesday conducted a physical outreach programme at the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI).

The programme aimed at creating awareness and enhancing taxpayer education among various stakeholders, including businessmen, Chartered Accountants, and Advocates, said a statement.

During the session, detailed interactions were held on compliance under the Income-tax Act, 1961, including timely filing of returns and statements, advance tax compliance including the upcoming advance tax installment falling on or before December 15, 2025. Digital initiatives of the Income Tax Department were also discussed. The officer highlighted the grievance redressal mechanisms available to taxpayers and professionals.

The participants actively engaged with queries and shared valuable feedback regarding practical issues being faced by the trade and professional community. The outreach helped in building confidence, strengthening communication, and improving voluntary compliance. The programme was well received, and the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce appreciated the Department’s initiative for direct interaction and awareness creation.

Meanwhile in a statement, KCCI said the event was presided over by KCC&I President, Javid Ahmad Tenga, who underlined the need for greater clarity on taxation regime. He said that awareness and timely information can help ease compliance burdens for traders, entrepreneurs and professionals, particularly amid evolving tax frameworks.

He appreciated the Income Tax Department for extending cooperation and engaging directly with the business community.

Moin Siddiqui gave a detailed presentation on the new tax regime, highlighting key changes, filing processes, exemptions, digital platforms and practical steps for smooth compliance. He addressed the common concerns of taxpayers and encouraged businesses to stay updated with the latest procedures to avoid complications during filing cycles.

A question–answer session saw participants sought clarifications on exemptions, documentation requirements, timelines and the transition process. The officer responded to queries and assured continued cooperation from the department in resolving industry-related issues. KCC&I reiterated its commitment to conducting more such awareness and capacity-building programmes that enhance business knowledge and strengthen the trade ecosystem in Kashmir, it added.
