Incessant rains hit normal life in Srinagar
Srinagar, Feb 18: Incessant rains affected normal life in the summer capital on Sunday even as there was waterlogging in various areas.
Rains also affected the weekly flea market in city-centre areas. Amid construction of drainage systems in various areas of Downtown, rains caused massive waterlogging.
People faced a tough time to travel on various city routes including Nowpora, Khanyar, Nawab Bazar and Bohri Kadal amid waterlogging. “We faced immense problems to venture out due to waterlogging in our area due to a defunct drainage system. The problem was compounded as accumulated water got splashed on several shops after movement of vehicles,” said a group of residents from Nawab Bazar.
“These newly constructed drains are yet to be connected with main sewers causing waterlogging and reverse flow of water. The problem is compounded due to uncovered manholes at Khanyar locality,” said Abdul Hamid, a commuter.
“Many vehicles were stuck in mud at various routes in Downtown where drains were recently constructed,” he added.
Commuters also faced tough time to drive on dilapidated roads near under construction flyover at Sanat Nagar. “Dilapidated roads coupled with waterlogging poses risk to commuters on the busy route,” said Showkat Ahmad, a commuter.
The weekly flea market popularly known as Sunday Market from Residency Road to Lal Chowk wore a deserted look in absence of customers amid rains.
