A large portion of the road was washed away by flashfloods in the Ferkin area, leaving over 100 households confined to their village.

The residents appealed to the Kupwara district administration to take concrete and immediate steps for the repair of the road so that traffic could be restored.

“The incessant rains for the last three days caused severe hardships to us and the damage to the road has added to our woes. The concerned department should immediately repair this road and come up with a protection wall to thwart any possible damage to the road in the future,” Abdul Majeed, a local said.

Meanwhile, the district administration issued a weather advisory saying, “The people of the district in general and those residing in the areas like Keran, Karnah, Machil, Budnamal, Jumugund, Nowgam, Kumkadi, and those living on the periphery of different nallahs and rivulets which are prone to sliding and flash floods are advised to refrain from venturing in these areas till the improvement in the weather.”
