Incessant rains damage bridge in Machil, several villages disconnected
Kupwara, Aug 30: The incessant rains for the last three days have damaged a bridge in the Machil area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district as a result of which several villages have been disconnected.
The residents told Greater Kashmir over the phone that due to incessant rains in the area for several days and a possible cloud burst, the water level in nallah Ringballa increased manifold, which damaged the bridge near Government Higher Secondary School Ringpayeen.
“Almost half a dozen villages including Tantray Basti, Khan Basti, Malik Baila, Ringballa, and few others have been disconnected due to which people are subjected to severe hardships,” Shabir Ahmad, a local youth said over phone from Machil.
The residents appealed to the district administration of Kupwara to take immediate measures so that their hardships do not last long.
“The government should make some temporary arrangements till any permanent solution is made so that vehicles can cross the nallah and at the time of any medical emergency, untoward incidents can be thwarted," they said.
They also sought the personal intervention of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan in this regard.
