Inayat Jehangir dominates singles final at Srinagar Open Tennis
Srinagar, Nov 17: Defending champion Inayat Jehangir clinched the singles title while the pair of Mir Jameel and Haider Hussain captured the doubles crown at the 2024 Srinagar Open Tennis Championship, which concluded here today at the Gindun Tennis Courts, Rajbagh.
In the singles final, Jehangir outplayed Dilbagh Singh in straight sets 6-0, 6-4. Despite the seemingly one-sided scoreline, the match featured high-quality tennis with Singh producing some spectacular winners before unforced errors crept into his game under Jehangir's relentless baseline pressure.
The doubles final proved to be a thrilling contest as Jameel and Hussain edged past Jehangir and Singh 6-4, 7-5 in a match lasting nearly two hours. Hussain's exceptional net play combined with Jameel's consistent baseline game proved decisive. The runners-up had their chances, holding three set points while leading 5-4 in the second set, but failed to capitalize.
In the semifinals, Jameel-Hussain had defeated Asif and Tahufuz, while Jehangir-Singh had overcome Rakesh Raman and S Rao.
Senior Police Officer Sajad Khaliq Bhat and ITF certified coach Hanumant Singh presented the awards at a brief ceremony following the finals.
The tournament, held from November 9-17, was organised by the District Lawn Tennis Association Srinagar in collaboration with JK Lawn Tennis Association.
