Massive sloganeering, rallies were witnessed since early morning in Srinagar today as various politicians filed their nomination papers. A confrontation between two parties was also reported after they crossed each others path in Srinagar.

The Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are being held after a long wait of around 10-years. The election will take place between Sept. 18 and Oct. 1, and votes are set to be counted on Oct. 8. As campaigning picked up, India's main opposition party, Congress formed alliance with the region's oldest party, JKNC.

Although the region is peaceful compared to past years, the three-phased polls will take place amid a sharp rise in attacks on security forces in the otherwise peaceful region of Jammu. Except BJP, the other big parties including JKNC, PDP, and Congress have said that their motive for this elections is same, which they say is, "restoring the dignity of J&K."
