Scores of Kashmiri Muslims on Friday prayed at the Makhdoom Sahab (RA) shrine, as the 13-day Urs, marking respect for the revered 16th century saint of Kashmir, culminated today. The revered saint was from north Kashmir's Sopore and used to pray on the Koh-e-Maraan mount in Srinagar's Downtown.
Makhdoom Sahab (RA), also known as Sultan-ul-Arifeen (King among those who know God) and Mehboob-ul-Alam (Beloved of the World), is one of the venerated sages in Kashmir. The people been paying obeisance at the shrine for more than 440 years.
Devotees purchase Halwe Paraathe (Pudding and Bread), a famous snack usually found outside shrines, Grand Mosques, and tourist places.
The market at Makhdoom Sahab (RA) shrine is seen thronged by many devotees, bringing good to the local economy as well.
People purchase Nader Monje, Tille Karre, and Pakoad (Fried Lotus Stems, Fried Pea, and a combination of fried onions and potatoes. The delicacies, for the Kashmiri people are a must to devour at and take some back home for family too.
