Srinagar, May 14: Gaasu Khimber is the home land of about one thousand farmers who are associated with the Strawberry trade and there are apple orchards as well which are a source of their livelihood. The Gaasu Khimber region is considered highly suitable for strawberry cultivation.

Strawberry cultivation started gaining ground in Gassu around 15 years ago, aided by government. Today, men, women, and children all take part in caring for and harvesting the crop, which is typically in season from May to June.

While strawberry harvesting also takes place in Tangmarg, located in north Kashmir, as well as in parts of south Kashmir, farmers believe that the fruit grown in Gaasu Khimber stands out for its larger size, juiciness, and superior taste.
