In Pictures: Amid scorching heatwave across J&K, children seek relief in streams
Srinagar, May 20: According to data from the Meteorological department Srinagar centre a heatwave swept through Kashmir Valley with Srinagar recording its hottest day this season at 32.2 degrees Celsius on 19th May.
The heatwave-like conditions began on Sunday, with Srinagar experiencing a temperature of 31.5 degrees Celsius. Qazigund, was the hottest spot in Kashmir, with temperatures soaring to 33 degrees Celsius — around 8.6 degrees above the seasonal average.
Meanwhile, in Jammu, the temperature peaked at 40 degrees Celsius. Banihal and Batote each recorded highs of around 30 degrees Celsius.
The popular tourist destination Pahalgam recorded a maximum temperature of 27.2 degrees Celsius. In the northern region of Kashmir, Kupwara registered a high of 29.9 degrees Celsius, while the Gulmarg ski resort recorded a cooler 23.6 degrees Celsius.
