In a first, SSB personnel posted in GMC Jammu for safety of medical staff

Srinagar, Aug 23: The Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu has become the first health facility in the country to have armed forces for the security of medical staff. Before this, the West Bengal government had said it would recruit personnel from police, army, navy, and air force for hospital security.

However, GMC Jammu is the first health facility in the country where the armed forces have been deployed.

The move has come following the rape and murder of a female doctor in western city of Kolkata which stirred people and governments across the country, demanding justice for the victim and the protection for medical workers in the country's hospitals.

As per reports, personnel from Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have been deployed in the emergency section of the hospital. Reports said, for now there are 10-personnel, but the number may rise to 30 in the near future.
