'Important to promote cultural expressions'
Srinagar, Jul 24: A remarkable cultural event was held today at Safapora area of Ganderbal by Karambuland Folk Theatre showcasing the folk play "Kral Pather."
The performance, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, under the Cultural Function and Production Grant (CFPG), received widespread acclaim from a captivated audience, who lauded both the exceptional performance of the artists and the government’s support for reviving and preserving traditional folk art forms.
The event was graced by the presence of Chief Guest Javid Ahmad Dar, Minister for Agricultural Production, Rural Development, Panchayat Raj Production & Election. The Minister praised the unwavering performance by the artists of Karambuland Folk Theatre and expressed his support for initiatives that aim to preserve and promote traditional cultural expressions. Minister Dar emphasised the critical role of such performances in reviving regional heritage and instilling a sense of pride in local traditions.
In addition, Nisar Naseem, writer and director of the play ''kraalpether'' and former broadcaster, was present as the Guest of Honour. Naseem expressed his admiration for the exceptional performances, noting that the production exceeded all expectations. He highlighted the importance of such folk plays in keeping the cultural fabric of the region intact, calling on more platforms to support similar endeavors.
Both the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour extended heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Culture for their vital role in organising and supporting this event through the CFPG. They commended the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing the arts and its unflinching support in facilitating such performances, which offer a rare and authentic glimpse into the cultural and artistic traditions of the region.
The event concluded with a shared sense of optimism for the future, with both officials and the audience expressing their hope that more such performances will be organised in the future. "The consistent backing of the Ministry of Culture is expected to create more opportunities for artists to showcase their talent and contribute to the continued revival of folk art in Kashmir. The Karambuland Folk Theatre, with its dedication to preserving and nurturing folk theatre traditions, has set a precedent for future initiatives that bridge the gap between modern-day art forms and traditional cultural practices," they added.
