Implementation of NGT directions in Udhampur reviewed

Udhampur, Feb 6: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Udhampur, Saloni Rai Tuesday presided over a meeting with departmental officers to assess the implementation of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), directives in the district.

An official spokesman said that the DC instructed the concerned officers to prepare comprehensive action reports on various aspects including treatment of sewage discharge, removal of dumping construction material, identification of vulnerable areas, and allocation of alternative garbage disposal sites.

Emphasising immediate action, the DC urged officers to collect water samples from the Devika River, identify potential pollution sources, connect unconnected households to the sewage network, and raise public awareness about proper waste disposal practices.

Furthermore, the Pollution Control Department was tasked with conducting random inspections of industrial units to ensure proper waste treatment before discharge.
