‘Implement measures to improve traffic situation in Srinagar’

Srinagar, Dec 13: The Group of Concerned Citizens (GCC) J&K today discussed the traffic issues of Srinagar city with Commissioner, SMC Fazlul Haseeb, and officers of Traffic, Transport, and Roads and Buildings Department.

GCC, in a statement, said on the occasion a number of short-term and long-term measures were discussed, and it was decided to start implementing the doable measures and also start the process for implementation of the long-term measures. “The Commissioner SMC, who has been specifically directed by the Chief Secretary to coordinate the implementation of measures for improvement of traffic, assured the GCC delegation that implementation will start soon and improvements made to give relief to the public,” the statement said.

“GCC will constantly follow up with the Commissioner SMC and the Chief Secretary regarding the traffic situation. GCC also discussed the prevailing environmental situation in the valley and felt that there is an inordinate delay in taking significant steps to stop the drift in the environmental situation. Also, projects that have significant environmental downturn need to be reviewed to ensure sustainable development,” the statement said.

“The GCC, therefore, appealed to the UT government to take strong steps for conservation of natural resources, including water, forests, agricultural land, and biodiversity in J&K. The GCC urged the elected government to create an impact in arresting the drift in the environmental situation,” it added.
