Srinagar, Mar 29: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Friday issued a forecast predicting above-normal temperatures and the likelihood of heatwave conditions in April and May.

Senior IMD scientist Naresh Kumar said that it was expected that temperatures would be above normal in the upcoming months.

He predicted heat wave conditions in April and May, particularly in central India.

“May is the warmest month of the season, and the country may experience heat waves over northwest and central India,” Kumar said.

He said that long-term predictions suggest abnormal temperatures and prevailing heat wave conditions over central India for the next two to three months.

Kumar also discussed the current weather patterns, mentioning an active Western Disturbance likely to affect Northwest India from today.

This disturbance may lead to heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, with light to moderate rainfall in adjoining plains, along with thunderstorm and hailstorm activity.

For the next few days, Delhi-NCR can expect light rain, Kumar said.

While temperatures in northwest India are currently abnormal, the influence of Western Disturbances is expected to gradually lower them, making the weather slightly more comfortable.

However, temperatures are likely to remain above 35 degrees Celsius over Northwest India due to the onset of summer.

Kumar also highlighted heat wave conditions over Maharashtra and nearby regions, along with Madhya Pradesh for the next two days.

Dry weather is expected over central India, and some parts of Karnataka will also experience a heat wave in the coming days.

Kumar said hot and humid conditions were expected over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, coastal Odisha, and coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next four to five days.
