The primary focus of the meeting was to review and enhance the security arrangements for the upcoming Muharram observances, which are likely to see large-scale religious processions across Kashmir.

The discussions covered a wide range of security measures, including crowd control, traffic regulation, and maintenance of law and order during the period.

Given the sensitivity of Muharram, with its significant mourning processions, the IGP emphasised the need for meticulous planning and coordination.

IGP Birdi directed the officers to implement foolproof security arrangements to ensure the peaceful conduct of Muharram events.

He stressed the importance of increased surveillance on anti-national elements and potential mischief mongers, particularly during night processions.

The IGP also advised the officers to conduct security reviews at Imam Bargahs and Masjids and hold coordination meetings with both Sunni and Shia community members.

Engaging with Shia community leaders was highlighted as a key strategy to secure their cooperation for the safe and peaceful observance of Muharram.

In addition to Muharram preparations, the meeting also addressed the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.

The officers briefed IGP Birdi on the current status of the yatra and the security measures in place.

The IGP directed that cut-off timings for yatri movements be strictly adhered to, ensuring their safety. He emphasised the need for constant vigilance and alertness during the movement of devotees to prevent any incidents and ensure a smooth and secure yatra.

This high-level meeting underscored the commitment of the Kashmir Zone Police and other security agencies to maintaining peace and order in Kashmir during these significant events.

The IGP’s directives are expected to enhance coordination and preparedness, ensuring that both Muharram observances and the Amarnath Yatra proceed without any untoward incidents.
